baby, baby.

i apologize for my absence. i have been busy with best friends, babies and family. angela had little max 2 days ago after being 3 days overdue. on sunday night she told allison and i “it just seems like i’ll never have this baby!” well, max heard that loud and clear and decided monday (sept. 19) would be his birthday. unfortunately everyone had traveled home by the time he made his entrance. those of us who were able to stay (or come back) gushed enough love, took and sent enough photos to make the others feel like they were there too.

everyone is doing well. they are now a family of 4, just like that! max is a perfect little thing and lola is excited to have a real live baby to cover, pat, feed (fake bottles) and hold (or try to!).

they all will be home soon and will begin the process of balancing this new little member in their family.

“baby, blankie.” lola has work to do with this baby- cover, pat, cover more, touch his eyes, cover again, pat, pat!

market time.

opposite of far will be taking part in the bloomington handmade market on november 12th 2011! looking forward to seeing you there!

nurture.

opposite of far can now be found at nurture- a lovely little shop on mass ave in indianapolis! the near&dear dolls at nurture are extra-special for the fall season. nurture has a new owner- ashley of elms & cedars. she has made some very sweet updates to the shop.

(my friend elizabeth of curly pigtails also has her beautiful, handmade, all organic, toddler girl clothes at nurture!)

 

margaret and marcus are wearing a new accessory from opposite of far- animal masks! these masks will be available for near & dear dolls with matching masks for children! your child and his/her doll can match during dress up to enhance imaginative play! the masks are soft with elastic across the back for a comfortable fit.  animals currently available in fox, owl, and raccoon and they come in several color combinations.

damon and beatrice are wearing hand-knit scarves for the cool fall weather. and many more new near&dear dolls will be wearing scarves this season to keep them warm while enjoying the outdoors with your child!

opposite of far studio update.

i have been working assembly-line style on 20 + dolls  & several doll accessories….

here are some bits & pieces to keep you on the edge of your seat!

1. pile of hand-knit scarves, with a set of leg warmers & a couple capes mixed in.

2. beatrice wearing her new scarf (she has matching socks!)

3.estelle – 70′s chic with bell sleeves – all sewed up & awaiting stuffing

4. 30 + doll masks (and a stack of pirate eye-patches-off camera) waiting to be sewn

5. annette modeling the first draft owl mask. (she loves it)

6. marcus’ dapper plaid shirt

7. marcus’ nifty denim shorts (he is begging to be stuffed too!)

is it really september already?

why, yes it is, by golly.

at the beginning of every new month i hear myself say “is it really ____ already?” i find myself wondering about the previous month and trying to remember what happened to make it go by so quickly. a lot of this and that, is usually my answer because it is difficult to remember many specifics. i can remember the big things from august- mike had a vacation, we re-painted our doors and shutters, my little sister turned 24, baby nicholas turned 1 ( we missed both because of car trouble), mike started a new position at a new branch, we went to a friends wedding, got a new car, and i made fresh basil pesto and salsa. that was august in a nutshell. i want to remember all the little things too, though. like that thing we laughed about until we both had tears flowing down our faces (what was that?!). and those long, heartfelt conversations with my best friend (we must have uncovered some major, but previously hidden truth!) and what about those times i just watched the puppies play in the yard, or the smell of the night air, cool mornings half awake, a really great homemade meal…. i know that stuff was peppered into the previous month, i just can’t always conjure the specifics about the little things. but the feeling of this and that- well, that is easy to remember! and it’s not really important when it happened, but that it happened. the good stuff sticks, no matter how quickly time ticks by.

(funny, though, how it is hotter on the first day of september than it was last few weeks of august!)
